
On August 14th, local time, according to a survey released by the Pew Research Center,
President Donald Trump’s tariff policies and the “bigger is better” tax and spending bill have both seen higher opposition rates than support across the United States. 61% of respondents opposed the tariff policy, with only 38% supporting it; 46% opposed the “bigger is better” bill, while 32% supported it, with another 23% undecided.
53% of Americans believe that Trump has made the federal government operate worse,
27% think it has improved, and 20% find the situation mixed. Trump’s overall approval rating is at 38%, down 9 percentage points from his inauguration, with all three categories of honesty, concern for ordinary people, and being a good role model receiving lower ratings compared to last year.
In terms of specific issues, respondents are more confident in Trump’s trade negotiations (47%) and immigration (46%) than in foreign affairs (43%) and healthcare (38%).
Regarding the decision on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, only 40% expressed confidence, a decrease of 5 percentage points from last year.
Seventy percent of respondents are dissatisfied with how the government handles information about Epstein’s case, with 63% expressing distrust of official statements, among whom Democrats account for as high as 88%. (CCTV Zhao Miao)
