
On August 14th, local time, North Korea held a grand celebration for the 80th anniversary of liberation of the country at the Pyongyang Victory Gate Square. The General Secretary of the North Korea’s Working Party and Chairman of the State Council, Kim Jong-un, and the Chairman of the Russian Federation’s State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, who was visiting North Korea, attended the event.
Volodin made a speech and read out a congratulatory letter from Russian President Putin to Kim Jong-un. He expressed that Russia is willing to cherish its friendly relations with North Korea, earnestly implement the spirit of the provisions in the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership between Russia and North Korea, and make efforts to promote the development of bilateral relations.
Kim Jong-un spoke about the revolutionary nature and political significance of North Korea’s liberation cause to restore its national dignity and autonomy. He called for perseverance and tenacity in facing all challenges ahead for the sake of national tranquility and prosperity.
On the same day, a performance celebrating the 80th anniversary of liberation was also held at the Victory Gate Square in North Korea. (By Dong Haitao from the Central Station)
