On August 15th local time, the Trump administration announced the expansion of the scope of the 50% tariff on steel and aluminum imports, adding hundreds of derivatives to the tariff list.
The U.S. Department of Commerce announced in the Federal Register that night that the Bureau of Industry and Security had added 407 product codes to the U.S. Harmonized Tariff Schedule, and these products will be subject to additional tariffs due to their steel and aluminum content.
The announcement stated that the non-steel and aluminum parts of these products will be subject to the tariff rate imposed by President Trump on goods from specific countries. The expanded tariff list will officially come into effect on August 18th.
On June 3rd local time, the White House issued a statement announcing that U.S. President Trump had announced an increase in tariffs on imported steel, aluminum, and their derivatives from 25% to 50%. The tariff policy will come into effect at 00:01 EST on June 4th, 2025. (Wu Hanying)
