On August 17th local time, European Council President Costa posted on social media stating that cross-Atlantic unity is currently crucial for achieving a lasting peace in Ukraine.
Costa emphasized at the “Volunteer Alliance” conference on the same day that if a ceasefire agreement cannot be reached, the EU and the United States must increase pressure on Russia.
Costa expressed that Ukraine’s sovereign right to determine the conditions of peace must be respected. Europe welcomes the willingness of the United States to provide security to Ukraine and to jointly ensure a fair and lasting peace in Ukraine, and Europe is ready to make contributions for this purpose.
After the “Volunteer Alliance” conference, which lasted more than two hours, French President Macron took the floor. He reiterated that the countries of the “Volunteer Alliance” hope to achieve a solid and lasting peace, and “any agreement that is not based on the presence or weakening of Ukrainian troops is insincere.”
