On August 18th, local time, Air Canada announced that the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) had ruled on the strike of its flight attendants. However, the union expressed that “the strike is not over” yet.

Air Canada issued a statement on its website in the morning of the 18th, stating that the Industrial Relations Board had ordered the union leadership to inform its members to stop the strike and return to work.

After the statement was released, the union expressed their response as follows. The union had announced the previous day that it had filed a lawsuit with the Federal Court over the enforcement of arbitration by the federal government.

Due to the continued strike by flight attendants, Air Canada has not yet announced how it will resume flights on Monday.

Canadian Employment Minister Patty Hajdu requested the Canadian Industrial Relations Board to make a binding arbitration on August 16th, ordering Air Canada flight attendants to return to work. Subsequently, the Industrial Relations Board made an arbitration ruling, ordering Air Canada and its flight attendants to resume work at 2 p.m. EDT on the 17th. On the 17th, Air Canada announced that it would gradually resume flights on the evening of the 17th. However, hours later, the union announced that they would continue with the strike. This decision by the union forced Air Canada to postpone its resumption plan again to the evening of the 18th. (By Zhang Sen, CCTV)
