Brandon Austin of Pro Football & Sports Network recently pointed out that Hart could be one of the most realistic trade chips for the Knicks. He wrote, “Hart is a significant contributor, but his skills are relatively unspecialized, making him easier to trade. If the Knicks want to pursue significant upgrades, he’s the type of player who can be traded. Hart can score in multiple ways, provide secondary organizational ability, and defend at a high level, making him an excellent championship puzzle piece.”
For the Clippers, Hart has everything they need to supplement their veteran lineup. Last season, he averaged 13.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 5.9 assists in 77 games, shooting 52.5%.
His all-around performance will immediately elevate the overall level of the Clippers’ rotation. This is the versatility they lacked when LeBron James and Paul George were off the court.
Instead of relying on inconsistent shooters or role players who excel in one area, Hart will bring a connector to Los Angeles – a player who fills gaps, elevates other players, and doesn’t require a large amount of ball possession.
Dean Simon of The Sporting News recently proposed a possible trade: the Clippers send Derrick Jones Jr., Drue Jordan Pickens, and a draft pick to the Knicks in exchange for Hart.
For the Clippers, this trade would clearly demonstrate their winning attitude now. Jones is averaging 10.1 points with a 35.6% three-point shooting percentage in the 2024-25 season, but Hart’s broader skills and playoff-style game may be more valuable.
For New York, such a trade could create salary cap space, add depth to the rotation, and retain the opportunity to pursue bigger name players.
If the Clippers want to maximize their championship window with LeBron James and Paul George, Hart is precisely the type of addition they need. He’s not a star, but he’s a playoff-tested veteran who brings toughness, versatility, and reliability – qualities that often make a difference in a playoff series.
Hart’s contract is valid for three more years, with salaries of $19.47 million next season, $20.92 million in the 26-27 season, and $22.38 million in the 27-28 season.
