On the afternoon of August 20th local time, the Polish Defense Minister Kosciniak-Kamies stated that the unknown object that fell and exploded in a field in the eastern Lublin Province of Poland was a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), and that Poland’s radar system “did not detect this airspace violation.”
Previously, the Polish news agency quoted a source from the Defense Department, stating that the military UAV did not carry a warhead and was most likely a “decoy UAV”. The source indicated that the military UAV only carried a small amount of explosives as a decoy target, designed to lure air defense systems away from真正的 combat UAVs. The Polish news agency reported that the UAV was designed to avoid detection by military radar and other detection systems, with small size and low-altitude flight characteristics, making it difficult to detect.
Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski announced that the Foreign Ministry would protest to the perpetrators. Currently, the military is analyzing the entire incident and launching an investigation.
There has been no response from Russia so far. (By Zhang Juan, Central Station)
