On the 21st local time, Brazilian President Lula criticized the US intervention again at a public event in Sao Paulo state in the southeast of Brazil.
He said that the United States “should not interfere in Brazilian politics” and stressed that Brazil would handle its internal affairs by itself.
Lula said in his speech that external pressure would not change Brazil’s position on sovereignty and national autonomy.
Since the United States imposed a 10% tariff on Brazil in April this year, the situation has continued to escalate. On July 9th, US President Trump announced that the tariff would be increased to 50%, which will be officially effective on August 6th, aiming to pressure Brazil’s politics through economic and trade means. In addition, the United States has also taken measures such as visa and economic sanctions against Brazilian Supreme Court judges, and linked the tariff decision with Brazilian cases and judicial issues in its external statements.(Report from Xiao Hejia at the headquarters)
