According to the US Geological Survey’s earthquake information network, an earthquake of magnitude 8.0 occurred in the Drake Passage at 10:16 Beijing time on the 22nd.
The US Geological Survey subsequently revised the magnitude to 7.5.
The Chilean Navy Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service later issued a tsunami warning, and provided details on the tsunami risk caused by the earthquake to the Chilean coast. The Chilean National Disaster Prevention and Response Bureau called for the immediate evacuation of the Antarctic beach area.
