According to Associated Press reports, Trump’s visit to the US Park Police Department lasted about 35 minutes. Additionally, NBC reported that Trump met with dozens of law enforcement personnel and National Guard members in Washington to thank them for their efforts in the anti-crime campaign in the capital. He claimed that these measures have become a “successful beginning” of his administration’s significant reduction in the crime rate in Washington.
On August 11, US President Trump announced the deployment of the first 800 National Guard members to Washington, D.C., as well as the takeover of the Washington Metropolitan Police Department by the federal government, in order to address the frequent violent crimes and excessive homelessness in the Washington area. Recently, the Trump administration increased the number of National Guard personnel stationed in the District of Columbia from 800 to nearly 1,900, leading to increasing dissatisfaction among local residents. In an interview, Washington Mayor Bowzer emphasized that the local crime rate has significantly decreased and there is no surge in crimes at present.
US President Trump left the White House to patrol the streets of Washington and announced his intention to “liberate the capital.”
