On August 22nd, local time, U.S. President Trump stated that he would consider deploying regular troops in Washington D.C. if necessary. He also indicated that he would extend the national emergency in Washington D.C. if required.
Trump also expressed openness to extending concealed carry gun rights to Washington D.C., and noted that House Speaker Johnson was prepared to allocate funds to improve the city’s appearance.
Trump stated that if Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser did not quickly bring order to the situation, he would “no longer be mayor.” Earlier on the 22nd, Trump had warned that he would remove Bowser if she did not resign, and threatened that if Bowser did not immediately stop releasing “false and grossly inaccurate” crime data, she could face a “complete federal takeover of Washington.” It is understood that further expansion of the takeover requires congressional approval, and local officials and residents in Washington have expressed opposition to this.
Additionally, Trump indicated that San Francisco and Chicago could become the next cities to be “brought under control” in terms of safety, and subsequently help improve law and order in New York. (By Xu Tao)
